Robert (Peter) Forsyth Barr Your Future, Based on Our History
Forsyth Barr was established in Dunedin in 1936 by Robert (Peter) Forsyth Barr. After the end of World War II, Peter was joined by J Murray Sidey and J Keith Skinner. Together the three partners built a strong business based on sound advice and a dedication to excellence.

Forsyth Barr’s reputation as an industry innovator is well deserved. In the 1970s, Forsyth Barr was the first broker to introduce a broad range of investment solutions including Mortgage Backed Securities and Fixed Interest services. In the 1980s Cash Management and Nominee Services commenced, and in the 1990s Portfolio Management and Thinking about Tomorrow (the first low cost retirement Fund) were offered to our clients.

Frater Brothers was established in 1872 by four brothers who immigrated to New Zealand from Scotland. They formed New Zealand’s most successful sharebroking business capitalising on the boom arising from the gold rush. The Company traded for 100 years until 1972 when it merged with Richardson & Williams and, after incorporation in 1987, became known as Frater Williams.

The merger of Forsyth Barr and Frater Williams has brought together two established firms of solid reputation and with proven track records to create the Forsyth Barr Group - New Zealand’s largest private client sharebroking Company and one of our country’s leading investment houses.
"Our future is about your future. Our long and proud history stands behind us and our commitment is to continue to provide innovative investment solutions to our clients. This combined with independent advice and personalised service will ensure that we manage and grow wealth for you."
