We are proud to announce that Forsyth Barr is the official sponsor of the Halfling Women’s Classic race which will take place during the week-long Three Peaks RIDE New Zealand’s Cycling Festival in January 2019.
The 66km Forsyth Barr Halfling Women’s Classic will be held on Saturday the 26th of January 2019 in the Waipa district and will be run alongside the other distance options happening within the Hobbiton Movie Set Gran Fondo which include; the 103km Ring Road, the 66km Halfling, the 22km Merry Meander and the Pint Sized Adventure for those 10 years and under.
Forsyth Barr’s Hamilton Manager Roger FitzGerald says “Forsyth Barr and particularly the staff in our Waikato based offices are delighted to be involved in the Three Peaks RIDE New Zealand Cycling Festival. We have a particular interest in developing initiatives involving Women in Sport and Leadership, hence becoming the naming rights partner of the Women’s Classic was a perfect match for us”.
Thanks to Forsyth Barr’s support, the entry fee for elite women cyclists associated with entering this race has been waived. Simon Perry, the Chairman of the RIDE New Zealand’s Cycling Festival Board, states, “We want to encourage female cyclists from within the region and beyond to take part in what we hope will be a highly competitive race and it was important to Forsyth Barr and the RIDE board, to look at ways we could reduce some of the barriers that many of our emerging female athletes face when seeking that vital race experience, cost of an entry fee for elite women cyclists being just one of them”.
The 2019 Forsyth Barr Halfling Women’s Classic will involve a separate start time and cash prizes for the top five place-getters. In addition to the cash prizes, Forsyth Barr is also providing the top three women’s Under 19 place-getters with an opportunity to lunch with elite cyclists Alison Shanks and Hamish Bond. Hamish is not only an elite athlete but is also an Authorised Financial Adviser with Forsyth Barr Cambridge.
In the future, the Three Peaks RIDE New Zealand’s Cycling Festival and Forsyth Barr aspire to build upon the some of the great success New Zealand’s women’s cycling has experienced over the years and create an environment where the Forsyth Barr Women’s Classic is deemed one of the premier women’s races on the cycling calendar in New Zealand. “Long-term, we aspire to make the race an UCI sanctioned event for females, hence providing an awesome opportunity for our New Zealand female riders to gain that valuable race experience at home”, said RIDE New Zealand’s Cycling Festival Board Member Graeme Maw.
