About Benjamin

Benjamin Lai joined Forsyth Barr Auckland in 2026, bringing more than 20 years of institutional portfolio management and financial markets experience to families and individuals across New Zealand.

For 17 years, Benjamin worked in Global Markets and Banking for an international bank in Hong Kong, where he held senior leadership roles including Head of Fixed Income and Co-Head of Macro Institutional Sales. During this time, he advised institutional investors – including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and hedge funds – on investment strategy, helping them grow and protect their portfolios while managing risk through changing market conditions and multiple market cycles.

Benjamin is working towards his financial adviser status and NZX Adviser accreditation. He is currently undertaking the New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5) (Investment), and holds a Bachelor of Business and Finance, and Securities and Futures Advisory Dealing.

Outside of work, Benjamin enjoys golf, rugby, and ultramarathons. He is a devoted husband and proud father of three energetic boys, giving him a genuine appreciation for the financial priorities and challenges facing Kiwi families.
