Vivian Gu joined Forsyth Barr in 2019 and has over 17 years of experience in financial services, including as a Wealth Adviser and Private Banker at one of New Zealand’s leading banks. Earlier in her career, she worked in her family’s retail business in Sydney, giving her firsthand insight into the perspectives of business owners and their families.

Vivian advises high-net-worth individuals and families, retirees, Family Offices and international investors. Her expertise spans sophisticated portfolio construction and management through to retirement planning, with a focus on preserving wealth, generating sustainable income and achieving long-term growth.

Vivian also has over a decade of experience advising migrant investors, from the former Investor 1 and Investor 2 categories to today’s Active Investor Plus (AIP) pathway. She helps clients navigate the AIP investment landscape and build tailored portfolios aligned with their broader investment and long-term wealth objectives.

Vivian is a registered Financial Adviser and accredited NZX Adviser, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the University of Auckland.

Born in Shanghai, Vivian moved to New Zealand with her family in 2002 under New Zealand’s inaugural migrant investor policy. Her personal experience of the migrant investor journey brings a valuable perspective to her work with international families establishing their lives and investments in New Zealand.

Outside of work, Vivian enjoys cooking and spending time with her young daughters.
