James joined Forsyth Barr in 2021 as a Director/Senior Analyst. His coverage includes the Technology sector within the larger capitalisation stocks. He also leads our issuer-sponsored research on mid and small-cap companies and collaborates closely with our Australian partner, MST Access.

James brings over 29 years of experience in New Zealand and Australian investment markets. This includes 21 years on the fund manager/buy side—19 of which were as portfolio manager of a concentrated NZ/Australian equities fund, a core equities fund, and a smaller companies fund—alongside eight years on the broking/sell side in research.

He is registered as a financial adviser and holds a Master of Commerce (Hons) and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Canterbury, as well as the NZX Diploma.
