AIR is the dominant airline in New Zealand, with a market share of ~80% in the domestic market with more than 50% of its business conducted on uncontested routes. AIR operates in JV or codeshare arrangements on key international routes to Asia, Australia, Pacific Islands, and North America. Key JV partners include Virgin Australia (trans-Tasman), Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong), Singapore Airlines, (Singapore) and Air China (Beijing/Shanghai). AIR also owns a ~26% stake in Virgin Australia (VAH.ASX). The company made its inaugural flight in 1940 as Tasman Empire Airways before being renamed Air New Zealand in 1965 under Government ownership.
