Sept 17 (Reuters) - Australian shares were set to open lower on Wednesday, with investors cautious ahead of key local jobs data later this week that is likely to temper any optimism from stronger commodity prices that could otherwise lift resource stocks. The local share price index futures slipped 0.5%, a 45.7-point discount to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index <.AXJO> close. The benchmark index inched 0.3% higher on Tuesday. New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index <.NZ50> fell 0.4% in early trade.
